Goodbye Little House
We moved house recently. Just a few streets away. I got a little sentimental.

You welcomed six weary souls
when the world went quiet.
Your walls
gave us sanctuary
and inside them
we huddled.
We regrouped.
Gaping wounds bandages
and exhausted muscles
given rest.
The tiniest heart became whole again
and all shared in the joy.
We did yoga in the backyard
and swung and jumped and lazed
while watching trains go by
full of people wearing masks.
Little house you were a school when school could not be
but also a school
where we
learned each other.
We learned what it means
to leave
and to love
and to laugh.
We read
and sang
and created.
We ached for friends
and deepened the friendships
within.
Little house
you brought us to a community
where we found home.
Easter eggs in early days.
Drive by cookies,
meals
and the Uber guys who know us well.
A walk to all the places
there are to go.
A ride into the city
to see dazzling lights.
But little house,
your roof leaks
and your kitchen is a
glorified cupboard.
You nursed us,
taught us
and gave us a home.
But now we move on
with hearts of gratitude
and excitement
about what adventures await.
